The "Living Sober" Book
Q. "I was wondering, is there a chance or movement trying to get rid of "living sober"? I am of the understanding that it's AA's best selling book which I find so sad x"
A. I agree. It is sad if Living Sober is the best selling A.A. book. I cant confirm that. I would hope the best selling A.A. book would be the book "Alcoholics Anonymous". This is where AA's 12 Step program of action can be found.
The Living Sober booklet does explain on the first page in the first sentence: "This booklet does not offer a plan for recovery from alcoholism."
Yes, there has always kind-of been a "movement" to discontinue this booklet. However, in my experience those who believe LS to be harmful (big book thumper's) rarely get into Service. In my experience, many thumpers are single legacy members. They don't often respect the Traditions (2nd legacy) and most don't understand what our Third legacy even is. (The conference and A.A.'s 12 Concepts)
Thumpers are great. Don't get me wrong. Because they actual have recovered, they know and love the big book, and as a result they help a lot of alcoholics, but it usually stops there. Again, because many don't concern themselves with the Traditions, or understand the concept of a home group let alone anything further down the service structure, their usefulness and effectiveness in A.A. stops there. A.A. needs all though (In my opinion). BB Thumpers, Service Geeks, and Tradition enthusiasts alike. Its just a catch 22 most of the time, as true THREE Legacy Servant can be a rare breed anymore and may be headed for extinction.
So, for these reasons, my prediction is that A.A. is stuck with the booklet.
Hope that makes some sense.
